Project overview
Two additional floors were added to the Services and Rehabilitation Center in Al-Burij Camp. Both floors were equipped with the necessary equipment, devices, and furniture required for operation, alongside the implementation of a range of community-based activities.
Main activities
1. Construction of Two New Floors at the Services and Rehabilitation Center in Al-Burij Camp:
The newly constructed floors include additional classrooms for Al-Burij School for Special Education, a Physical Therapy Center, an Occupational Therapy Unit, a Speech Therapy Unit, and a multipurpose hall.
2. Training Course on Early Detection of Disabilities and Referral:
A training course on the early detection of disabilities and referral mechanisms was conducted for kindergarten teachers in Al-Burij Camp. Eleven kindergartens received the necessary guidelines, tools, and materials to implement the screening process in practice within their kindergartens. This followed a practical simulation day conducted for the kindergarten teachers who participated in the training.
3. Speech and Language Therapy Services:
Speech and language therapy services were provided to children with and without disabilities through intensive therapy sessions. The activity also aimed to raise community awareness about the early detection of speech and language difficulties, as well as appropriate treatment mechanisms.
4. Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns on:
a. Ways to protect persons with disabilities and ensure their safe access and mobility on roads.
b. Ways to protect persons with disabilities and ensure their safety and accessibility in public facilities.
5. Community Awareness Workshops:
A total of 40 community awareness workshops were conducted on “Raising Community Awareness of Issues Related to Persons with Disabilities.” These workshops were facilitated by members of the Society’s Protection and Inclusion Committee.
6. Inclusive Sports Marathon – “Sports for All”:
An inclusive sports marathon entitled “Sports for All” was organized, bringing together persons with and without disabilities. The top three winners of the running race were honored.
7. Specialized Sign Language Training:
A specialized Level One Sign Language training course was conducted for the Society’s staff, as well as a number of employees from organizations operating in Al-Burij Camp.
8. Opening of the Rehabilitation Services Building:
The Rehabilitation Services Building in Al-Burij Camp was officially opened with broad participation from the local community.
9. Training Course on Protection Issues for Persons with Disabilities:
A training course was conducted for members of the local community on protection issues related to persons with disabilities. The training resulted in the establishment of the Protection and Inclusion Committee.
10. Establishment of a Safe Space for Children and Women:
A safe space was established to be used for activities targeting children and women.
